WHERE

Pinewood, SC

WHEN

2010 – Present

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The Pinewood Site is a closed 250-acre Subtitle C RCRA hazardous waste landfill, which operated as a claystone mine from 1972 to 1978. In 1978, it began operating as a landfill and received hazardous and nonhazardous waste until 2000 when site closure began. Smith Gardner, Inc. currently performs routine groundwater monitoring utilizing over 150 monitoring wells within 5 different aquifer systems and on-going investigations are currently being conducted to delineate/remediate a chlorinated solvent groundwater plume as a result of site activities prior to landfill operations. The routine groundwater monitoring and reporting will be conducted throughout the 100 year post-closure period for the site.
