GEOMATICS & SURVEYING
GOOD DATA IN. GOOD DATA OUT.
Quality engineering begins with the precise and accurate location of existing natural and man-made features. The S+G Geomatics division pays attention to the details and keeps your projects moving in the right direction. Combining decades of professional experience with cutting-edge technology, we deliver a true representation of the conditions on the ground. A deep understanding of the interplay between America’s horizontal and vertical datums and the newest Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) technologies reinforces S+G Geomatics’ ability to keep projects on track and on budget.
S+G Geomatics can provide a full suite of land surveying tasks* including topographic, construction staking, site plans, subdivision, asset inventory and much more.
*S+G Surveying Services are managed from our office in Columbia, SC.
As-Builts and Volumetric
With the ability to mobilize rapidly, our Geomatics team can provide timely as-built, volumetric, monitoring, and many other surveys to keep construction projects moving.
Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Topography
Accurate measurements gathered with amazing efficiency. Using an internal pool of FAA Certified Remote Pilots, our drones can be deployed at any time to serve a wide variety of project needs.
Surface Modeling
Quality surface-modeling and accurate site benchmarks allow for seamless machine control operations. S+G professionals use Trimble Business Center and other industry leading software and equipment to streamline the design to build process.
Building/Structural Monitoring
S+G can provide detailed monitoring surveys for our clients. Our Geomatics department understands that survey monitoring of buildings, retaining walls, soil subsidence etc., begins with a thorough understanding of the necessary precision, the duration of monitoring event, and specific site conditions. Our Geomatics team has experience with implementing terrestrial scanning, traditional surveying and leveling, and advanced statistical analysis to provide the highest quality to clients. Monitoring reports are tailored to the client’s needs with a focus on providing the information pertinent to them in a clear and concise manner.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Mapping
At S+G, we use GIS technology to bring static project data to life, empowering you to make more informed decisions in real-time. By integrating the latest GIS and mobile data technologies with existing CAD workflows, we create dynamic project solutions for enhanced data management, mapping, and analysis.
Boundary/ALTA
Boundary and ALTA/NSPS surveys reflect the many years of accumulated research experience within our Geomatics division. We understand the importance of communication during the planning and design phases of land development. Starting with an analysis of title documents and historical land uses, we will take the necessary steps to identify latent issues and prevent them from evolving into costly problems.
UNMANNED AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS (UAS)
CUTTING EDGE AERIAL LIDAR AND PHOTOGRAMMETRY
Smith Gardner’s cross-trained UAS team combines deep field experience with technical precision, using advanced drone technology to support a wide range of project needs. Our FAA-certified remote pilots are ready to deploy across NC and SC, whether capturing high-resolution terrain models or performing photogrammetric reconstruction. We operate in challenging terrain—including small streams and steep slopes—using rigorous checks and ground truthing to ensure reliable, high-quality results.
By integrating UAS technology into our workflows, we deliver targeted, real-time data that supports planning, design, and operations. Our aerial imagery and LiDAR outputs allow for accurate base mapping, 3D surface modeling, and volumetric calculations, while our spatial analysts quickly translate massive datasets into usable, visual documentation. Even in potentially unsafe conditions, drones enable remote site inspections using high-resolution photography and video, keeping field crews safe while capturing the details you need.
GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS)
BRINGING PROJECT DATA TO LIFE
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have long supported infrastructure and environmental management by capturing, cataloging, and visualizing spatial data alongside CAD and traditional surveying methods. With the rise of cloud computing, mobile data capture, and smart devices, GIS has evolved into an essential tool—offering far more than static maps and now serving as a dynamic platform for data-driven decision-making across sectors.
At Smith Gardner, we integrate advanced geospatial workflows—including UAS, high-accuracy LiDAR, photogrammetry, and custom geoprocessing tools—to generate detailed imagery, terrain models, and vector data. Interactive web maps and virtual site tours improve collaboration, streamline communication, and provide real-time insight to better manage infrastructure, teams, budgets, and resources.
